Most UK parking bays are 2.4 m wide by 4.8 m long — the benchmark Parkadoo compares every car against. Bays do vary: older or high-turnover car parks can be tighter, and some newer developments are more generous. But 2.4 × 4.8 m is the long-standing standard.

Accessible bays are wider — typically 3.6 m — to leave room for wheelchair access and getting in and out. So a car that’s a tight fit in a standard bay usually has noticeably more breathing room in an accessible bay.

Yes. We use width with the mirrors unfolded, because that’s the width that actually matters when you’re easing between bays, pillars or other cars. Many manufacturer “width” figures exclude mirrors, so folding them in can claw back a few precious centimetres in a tight spot.

Yes. EVs are treated just like any other car. Batteries can make an EV longer, wider or heavier than its petrol equivalent, and can change its turning circle, so we use each vehicle’s own published figures rather than assumptions.

Yes. SUVs and crossovers are covered. They’re often taller than a hatchback but not always longer or wider — so the numbers can surprise you. That’s exactly what Parkadoo is there to show.

If your car is wider than 2.4 m (mirrors out) you’re right at the limit of a standard bay. It can still work in open spaces, but tight multi-storey car parks and bays hemmed in by pillars or other cars will be a squeeze — and opening the doors gets harder. Parkadoo shows the exact width you’d have left over, or how far over you are.

If your car is longer than 4.8 m you’ll get some overhang. In open or end bays that’s often no problem, but where the bay backs onto a wall, walkway or another row it can be an issue. Parkadoo shows how much length is left over so you know what to expect.

Some manufacturers don’t publish turning-circle figures. Rather than invent a number, we simply mark it “not available” for those cars, and the parking animation shows a generic curve instead of an exact manoeuvre. Everything else — width, length and the fit verdict — still works as normal.

We use manufacturers’ published data, which generally reflects standard model sizes and minimum turning circles. It doesn’t account for real-world factors like speed, road surface, tyre wear, or any modifications and accessories that change a vehicle’s size.
